Mössbauer & EPR spectroscopy, DFT calculations


Our group uses Mössbauer spectroscopy, Electron Paramagnetic Resonance and Density Functional Theory (and other methods when appropriate); to understand key states of iron-containing metalloproteins and biomimetic compounds. The goal of these studies is to obtain information about the geometrical and electronic structure of these systems. The theoretical studies are guided by Professor Emile L. Bominaar. We do not perform synthetic work nor do we isolate proteins or prepare whole cells. These tasks are in the capable hands of our collaborators (twelve groups currently).
